Dodecenyl Succinaylation by Microwave Technique


Accurately weighed quantity of starch was mixed thoroughly with required quantity of dodecenyl succinic anhydride (DDSA) and subjected to microwave irradiation by convection heating at 100°C for the required time, with stirring the samples after every two minutes of microwave exposure. After reaction, the samples were slurried in distilled water; pH was adjusted to 6.5 and filtered. Washing was repeated several times with distilled water (3×100 mL) and finally with acetone (100 mL). After filtration the product was dried in an air oven at 55°C overnight.
